Kia received five vehicle design awards from the Red Dot international design competition body.
The honors include the organization’s highest accolade, the Best of the Best award, for its customizable PV5 WKNDR concept, a “platform beyond vehicle” electric “adventure” van that can transition from the city to the back country with an external storage system that can be transformed into a mobile kitchen. The vehicle’s energy is generated via solar panels and hydrogen turbine wheels.
The South Korean automaker also took home awards for its ultra-compact PV1, the midsize PV5, the larger PV7 and the electric EV2 SUV concepts in the cars and motorcycles categories. Kia hasn’t yet made the PV5 available in the U.S.
"Being recognized by one of the world’s leading design competitions is a wonderful achievement, and reflects the thoughtful innovation and dedication that we invest into every model we design,” said Kia Executive Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design Karim Habib in a press release. “We will endeavor to build on this momentum as we shape the future of sustainable and accessible mobility.”
